Case Study

Teachers TV
Client: Department for Children, Schools and Families

What we did:

To help the DCSF deliver training and development to teachers in a more effective way, we are currently providing a range of services including strategic advice and the management of various aspects of Teachers TV (TTV), a dedicated television channel aimed at the schools workforce.

How we did it:

Our work started with the design of a business case that examined the opportunities offered by digital media to meet the DCSF’s goals.

The DCSF retained our service to provide the following:

  • Providing strategic advice in helping TTV move towards a wholly multi-platform on-demand service
  • Building service specification to reduce cost to the DCSF
  • Running the supplier re-tender process

Outcomes:

Since its launch in 2005, TTV has proved to be a success:

  • The service will deliver benefits worth £180 million over the next five years
  • The channel costs less than £2.50 for every programme watched, in relation to the number of viewers
  • 62% of school workers with access to the service via Digital TV or broadband have viewed it since launch
  • TTV is watched by 24.5% of the schools workforce each month, with 230,000 visiting the website
  • Around 40% of school workers have recommended TTV to colleagues
  • 30% of schools have used the service in formal training
  • 1/3 of viewers said that it had directly influenced something they had done in school.
